Hello !  I am back from vacation with Papercraft Star's challenge this week ...

A Warm Beverage !

Doesn't this look oh so tasty !

I nearly went the Christmas route, but instead chose coffee as my beverage of choice.  This is just that time of year when any kind of hot drink is welcoming.  AND nothing smells better than coffee brewing in a cozy warm kitchen.

Hope you will join us this week with your favorite hot drink !!

Oops, I also meant to include a couple photos of my gorgeous talented daughter, Brie ...

The Kraft Journal - Bangles and Bows

♥♥♥♥♥

The challenge this week at The Kraft Journal is ...

Bangles and Bows !

What a fun challenge, and the opportunity to do a little jewelry making too !

Here is my take this week...

and once the tag is taken from the little pocket ...

Cute sentiment !

I have been busy making candy, so a chocolate colored card was definitely in the works for this challenge !  I began with a Lunch Bag Kraft Note Card, and adhered some Black and Kraft Card Stock design paper.  I added some tape, a stamped sentiment and popped up some matted design paper for a pocket.  Into the pocket I slipped a Small Kraft Shipping Tag, on which I finished the sentiment, and added a little pin along with some seam binding.  I completed the card with a lightly inked rose, some Natural Hemp Cord tied in a bow, and a bauble of beads, which can be detached and added to a purse zipper pull.  Some  dark pearls have been added at each corner.

Oh, and I did color the flowers with Copics.

The Kraft Journal 93 - Inside & Out

♥♥♥♥♥

This week at The Kraft Journal ...

Inside and Out !

I love pockets and tags, and combined the two for this fun fun challenge !

The exterior began as a Brown Kraft Note Card envelope.  After sealing the envelope, I cut the short side down, punched a half circle and turned it into a pocket for the tag.  I punched some design paper, and added it to the "pocket", along with silk ribbon, and a button attached with some Earthy Hemp Cord.  I completed the exterior with a mounted Seasonal Salvaged Sticker,  a cute Tiny Colored Wooden Clothespin, and some ink.  The tag began life as a Large Manila Shipping Tag backed with some design paper, and heavily inked.  I included some tape, a journaling card, some fiber and topped it with a heavily embossed grungy skull.  I included some Savannah seam binding at the top, along with more Earthy Hemp Cord.  I encased the "poison" in tape, and added an eyelet, along with a cute brad to finish the tag.

What a fun challenge this was !  Come and play with us this week at The Kraft Journal - there are prizes to be won !

The Kraft Journal - Ink it Up

♥♥♥♥♥

This week at The Kraft Journal our challenge is ...

Ink It Up !!

Well I think I ink just about everything.

I began with a Lunch Bag Kraft Blank Note Card, then adhered my design paper.  I added a bow from Victorian Seam binding, and included a button laced with some  Earthy Hemp Cord.  The tree was fussy cut from Corrugated Kraft Paper and wrapped with more Earthy Hemp Cord.  I finished it off with a sentiment, a die cut snowflake, lots of ink, and some distress embossing powder.

This is one of the easiest challenges EVER - stop by and join in with us The Kraft Journal this week !

Papercraft Star 116 - Fall Colors

♥♥♥♥♥

Papercraft Star 116 has a theme this week - fall colors !

One of my most favorite challenges each year, and I make a few cards with just these colors.  Check out this inspirational picture ...

People often use the term "glorious" when they talk about the incredible colors of the fall season.  We don't have quite the vibrant tree colors here in Oregon as we did when I lived in Minnesota, but all the same, a few peek through those evergreen trees !!

I made my own felt flowers, and that funny leaf doily I found in a package at the Dollar Store !

Everyone plans for fall color cards - I know you do too.  Why not link up with us at Papercraft Star this week - we would love to have you !!

Tutorial for TKJ - Men's Cards

♥♥♥♥♥

Here is my tutorial for this month at The Kraft Journal.

More making cards for men ...

Fonts – chose an easy to read, print font.  Cursive fonts, unless very simple, are too “fancy” – just ask him !

Paper – Graphic 45 has the most fabulous paper for men, and you will usually find it on the “B” side.  A good decision maker for you is, does this look like a formal tie ?  If it does, it will work for a more formal type card.  On the other hand, does it look like a flannel shirt ?  If so, it would probably be a great choice for a more casual card.  If you have or find paper that reflects his hobbies or interests, it will be manly already.

Ribbon – a dark formal type ribbon could be used but skip the bow !  You may try a knot in the middle, or the two ends tied in a knot, or just add a simple ribbon across the card either direction.  You can however use a small bow if you are using hemp or jewelry cording, think of shoe lace bows.

Distressing – if your guy is like mine, he has some old blue jeans he lives in.  Coredinations offers a huge choice in colors, and cores of different colors.  Kraft and brown always show up as a distressed choice for men - think of worn wallets, pockets, belts, driving gloves and Hush Puppies.

Stamps & Digitals – you really don’t have to look too hard to find stamps and digital images for men.  Again, stay with a simple font for your sentiment.  Skip the cutsey animals and children, and botanicals, unless you are looking at a good sturdy tree.  You won’t have difficulties if you stick with the same ideas that you see in men’s advertising – sports and the outdoors, if he truly likes those things already.

Here is a Halloween card for a guy – note the distressing, the striped “tie” paper, the worn wallet paper framing the skeletal image, the skull & crossbones design paper, the “sports” ticket, and the simple sentiment font. From last month’s tutorial, I worked from a straight foreward sketch, with sharp right angles. I also used some recycled packaging and an old shower scrubby to evoke more of a “used and comfortable” feeling, and to add some texture.

Next month we will conclude this mini-series with a raft of fun embellishments for guys !

It still looks like summer here !

♥♥♥♥♥

It may still look like summer here, but that did not stop Dom and Spencer from doing their Halloween/Thanksgiving/Fall decorating on the front porch !

A few scary things mixed in with fall ...

Hey I missed that witch, can you see her hand on her broom ?

Spencer put a rat right in the middle, can you see it ?
Will it scare anyone ?

The fall tree will be up in a couple of days ...

The Kraft Journal 90

♥♥♥♥♥

The Kraft Journal's theme this week is "go quick as a bunny."

I was surprised at how very few bunny things I had, and when I went out to look for paper or stickers or something, I didn't find a thing.

But, I did have one perfect image for the fall - and I chose to use the sentiment "button up", so I could use more fall paper !

I began with a Brown Kraft Blank Notecard, and adhered some design paper and paper ribbon.  I then added some brown silk ribbon, and two Dollar Store leaves.  The base for the tag came from both a Town Square Journaling Card, and a Large Kraft Shipping Tag.  I added a button to the image, threaded with some Earthy Hemp Cord, and completed my "Button UP" sentiment with a Chit Chat Word Sticker.  To finish, I drizzled the edges with orange stickles.

Isn't that image so perfect !  It came from theHouseAcrosstheBay etsy store.

I had a fun time making this - I hope that shows !
