TKJ 113 - Kraft and your favorite color !

♥♥♥♥♥

A really fun and open challenge this week at The Kraft Journal -

Your favorite color with Kraft !!

I love white with kraft the best, but since we did that combo a couple of weeks ago, I chose red as the next favorite with kraft.  I used a couple of themes here, both numbers and harlequin shapes, to tie things together.  I also included the inside, as this is a card meant for someone who needs to be reminded she is so beautiful.

The humble beginning of this card is the always useful Kraft Note Card.  Adhered to that is some design paper, stamped with harlequin shapes.  The "beautiful" Lille Tag was distressed, inked and threaded with Black Burlap Ribbon.  Another harlequin shape was added with pearls, and a Custom Fastener with another number was attached atop, bowed with Natural Hemp Cord.  The edges were inked and distressed.

I made a very simple inside, with more of the harlequin stamp, another Lille Tag, and one more numbered Custom Fastener.

The Kraft Journal has great challenges each week, and a tutorial each Wednesday.  Hope you were inspired by this card - I made it for someone very special !!

TKJ 112 - Lucky Green !

♥♥♥♥♥

At The Kraft Journal this week our theme is

Lucky Green !

I am not so lucky at bingo, how about you ...

I made this card as a Random Act of Kindness for St. Paddy's Day.  Inside is a lottery ticket for a stranger, delivered to them by a waitress, sworn to secrecy.
I began with a Kraft Blank Note Card.  I adhered some punched design paper, and a Bingo card, which is actually a Lost and Found Salvage Sticker.  Atop that is a Schedule Card from the Identity Card Set, with Lucky U spelled out from the Hodgepodge Magpie Stickers and popped up. Natural Hemp cord is threaded through the shamrock buttons, and used as a bow on the bingo charm.  This is truly a 10 minute card !  Stop by this week and play along !

Here is a pic of my kitchen ...

I couldn't find the right color of green in my paper so I went with something pretty close ...

It would have been a five minute card if I hadn't searched through all my paper for that color green !

Come play at Papercraft Star this week, and show us your kitchen !!

March tutorial

♥♥♥♥♥

Hi Everyone ! This month's tutorial for The Kraft Journal is here !  We are fancying up a TH memo pin, into a glitter stick pin.

The items you will need are:

Tape
Diamond Glaze
Glitter (I used Martha's coarse white)
Tim Holtz memo pin (from Kraft Outlet)

I worked on a little plastic dish I could lift away from my work table, so as not to disturb the little pin.

First, tape the back of the pin, like this

Add some Diamond Glaze in the middle.  It will probably "over fill", but you can always break that part off easily once it is dry.

Add a pinch of glitter.  And now comes the HARD part !  Put your dish away, and forget about it until tomorrow.  It dries slowly because it is in such a glob.  I know you will want to touch it, I know you will.  But RESIST!

Pull off the tape tomorrow, and this is how your little pin will look.  Isn't it so cute !  And only about 3 or 4 minutes of time.

Another tip is to keep all of your stick pins on a piece of foam.  This piece is recycled, an old piece from a set of brads.  I can see them easily, and of course now that they "stick" in my mind,  I remember to use them !

Spencer came over last night for awhile, and I took this picture of him sitting on the loveseat, reading his Ipad.

I told him there was no such thing as an Ipad when his mom was his age.  In fact, I said,
people didn't even have computers in their houses !

and he said

Well, that is ridiculous !
How did you ever learn anything ??

TKJ 110 - Use a Sketch

♥♥♥♥♥

This week, at The Kraft Journal, we were required to use a sketch.  I usually work from a sketch anyway, and here is the one I chose.

Well, sketches are only supposed to get us going, right ??  lol

Jan Del Bone
I love those Brown Kraft Blank Note Cards, and used them again this week as a base.  I added some edge punched Buff Ivory Card Stock  and design paper.  A Mini Canvas Rectangle was frayed and adhered with some buttons strung with Natural Hemp Cord.  I free hand cut a heart made from E Flute Corrugated Kraft Paper, added a pink ribbon behind, wrapped with more Natural Hemp Cord and stuck in a pink heart shaped hat pin.  The Love rubbing sentiment was added from the Love Ink Rubbing Collection.

If you use sketches regularly, this is a simple enough challenge !  Hope to see you at The Kraft Journal !!

TKJ - White on Kraft

♥♥♥♥♥

Is there anything prettier in a card than white embossing on kraft card stock !  I think not !!

That is our theme this week at The Kraft Journal !!

Jan Del Bone
My white on kraft card begins with a Kraft Note Card, that was stamped and embossed in white.  A white card stock was dry embossed and adhered above the lacy image.  I added an embossed Kraft card stock buckle, with a rubbing, and some ribbon run through, and tied in a knot.  Lastly, I included a Tim Holtz flower made from Kraft and Black card stock, with a bow of  Natural Hemp cord.  The only thing not from Kraft Outlet is the HugSnug ribbon, and the brass brad !

What a beautiful challenge this is - I cannot wait to see how everyone interprets it.  See you at The Kraft Journal !!

The Kraft Journal - Not a Card !

♥♥♥♥♥

The Kraft Journal starts out the week with an
Anything but a card Challenge !

I chose a tag for the "Anything But a Card" challenge, for no reason except tags are always my first love !  I began with a very large tag, to which I adhered some design paper and this very cool Old Newspaper Washi tape !  A Large Manila Shipping tag was embossed, inked, sprayed, backed with some Kraft and Black Cardstock, and the same cardstock torn to make a pocket on top and stapled to the first tag, leaving room for a pocket.  An "open this" sticker was adhered to the striped pocket.  A reinforcement sticker was adhered to the largest tag, threaded with ribbon and some Earthy Hemp cord,
along with an alarm clock charm.

Inserted into a pocket is a Small Kraft Shipping tag, finished with some  Black burlap ribbonBoth the Journal ticket and the small tag have rubbing sentiments from the same package.  Everything was finished off with inking, and a teeny paper clip.

These little journal tags are just as cute as can be !!

Come play along !!

Tutorial for TKJ !

♥♥♥♥♥

Hi Everyone !  Today The Kraft Journal posted my tutorial, or I guess I should say, some tips I have found.

I often see other bloggers talk about losing their mojo, and that can be something hard to work through.  Here are some tips on jump starting your ideas, and getting yourself back in the flow !

1.  Keep a sketch book.  There are a lot of sketch challenges, and Feline Playful shows the actual sketch each day for many of them.  Don't hesitate to copy a sketch from a card you absolutely LOVE - it is not stealing.

Kraft Outlet's journals

2.  Keep an idea book.  Often I see cute ideas I really want to incorporate in a card someday, and I may sketch that idea, or keep a list.  My list is very long, and includes things like "try different kinds of folds" and "try using wax on a card."

3.  Pour over the papercraft magazines or books you have in your stash.  If you haven't looked at it in a year, you will find something you forgot about, or overlooked.

4.  Try a new technique !  Here at The Kraft Journal we have a tutorial every Wednesday.  Our archives are full of wonderful opportunities for you to learn something new.

5.  Explore some different papercraft blogs.   Design team members on challenges may have something you admire, and will spark an idea.

6.  Pinterest.  If your Pinterest  page doesn't have a papercraft board, it should !!

7.  Go shopping !  Oh, did I even have to say this.  Nothing sparks your imagination like something new to play with, does it.  We have our own shop here at The Kraft Journal,  Kraft Outlet.  Pop on in, and you will surely find something you can't live without !!

8.  Try a really difficult challenge.  Maybe it is a tough sketch, or some odd color combination, an unusual photo or theme.  It sounds as if this would be at odds with your missing mojo, but when we stretch our imaginations something new often comes with it !

9.  Sit down with your paper, and set a deadline.  Try 10 or 15 minutes.  If nothing comes, put it away, and try again later.  If something gets going, you won't want a deadline !

10.  Exercise, take a walk or go for a bike ride.  These are proven methods of clearing your brain, and rejuvenating your soul.

My dad did a lot of crafty things, but he always felt it was so difficult to do something better than the last thing he did.  Sometimes we fall into that trap, worrying too much about the end result, and we wind up paralyzed.  Instead - remember all the joy you have in simply creating !  That is really why we are here in paper craft land, right ??

And this week at The Kraft Journal our theme is "seeing red."  Love to have you join us !!
