CCCB 61

♥♥♥♥♥♥

City Crafter's challenge this week has an ATC (Artist Trading Card) requirement. If you have never done one, they are simply a mini art project, 2.5" x 3.5", not to be sold, only traded.

I used my favorite Jane Austen quote, an old photo from somewhere, and a digital image from The House Across The Bay.

Ah, there is so often a story behind each project. This quote is my most favorite because it fits me in my youth. I wanted to be taken seriously as I thought I had things to say - but I always forgot I had that silly hat on top of my head.

*sigh*

Cardstock - Recollections
Digital guest check - The House Across The Bay Etsy shop

Stickles - Ranger
That was all it took. And inspiration.

SS39, JFF

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Is it summer yet ? If it is, why am I sitting here in a fleece top, blue jeans and socks ?? Brrr.

Today I have a card prepared for two challenges. Scrapbook Sisters is featuring an English Country Garden, and Just For Fun is featuring anything with anything Tim Holtz upon it.

Neither one of those is a difficult challenge, but you know, I don't think I have seen either requirements in a challenge before. It wasn't hard to combine into one card, as I gave a nod to garden notebooks using TH products.

The bird is layered with some music and "tape", and was a freebie image from Designer Digitals. I printed it on vellum for a more sheer design.

Spencer doesn't take naps when he visits on Sundays, but when I had him on a Saturday his mom told him he must take a nap. Since it wasn't a Sunday, he agreed to that. When I took him into my bedroom I put on a noise machine I listen to at night. It has some choices for sounds, and I put on the jungle theme which has birds calling out to one another. Spencer sighed and said
"it is sooooooo beautiful", and slept for nearly 3 hours.

That is why I chose a bird and the word "listen" for this card.

Hope your weekend is amazing ! I am going to Ben Franklin for a make-n-take, and learning how to make a bezel. I would love to incorporate those charms into my cards - so be on the look out for that !

Papercraft Star 49

♥♥♥♥♥♥

This is our sketch this week at Papercraft Star. The word sentiment is misspelled, which I can't do anything about - if you are a spelling nut like I am, please excuse.

I really liked this sketch, and I think it would be a great one to keep in your sketchbook. If you don't have a sketchbook, I would suggest you start with just a little $1 bin Michael's scribble book. I keep a few dozen to refer to, and often make a sketch of a card I really like.

Tradefish Designs
is sponsoring us once again, YIPPEE ! Stop by and see our Cecilia - she will have a new set of stamps out every single month. AND she is giving away a set every week this month, and during our blog hop too. You do not want to miss that.

In keeping with the double challenge (masculine AND sketch) here is my card this week.

365 Cards - Day 99

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Here is the challenge at 365 Cards.

Today's challenge is to create a birthday card, but not just any birthday card. It's the birthday card that you would want to get if one was designed especially for YOU!

A little wanky, a little crumpled, with a pocket and tag, some seam binding and some jewelry hemp. I would want paper with words on it, and this yellow paper with the flowers. I have saved that paper for a long time.

Of course, I think the very best birthday cards are ones that are hand made and given with lots of love !

Here is a birthday card Spencer made for me.

Cranked it out himself he did. The "most beautiful hearts in the world".

2011 First Golf Tournament of the Year

♥♥♥♥♥

Some of my readers know I have spent a lot of my lifetime on golf courses. Dom and I spent many years with the Oregon Golf Association, mostly working their scoreboards and computers. But, as of this year we have now spent 21 of those years watching our daughter compete. Ok, not exactly watching, as we were usually at the scoreboard, but we did get to see her make a putt or two. From 9 years old, Brie has been a real competitor.

This year Brie started off her season at the Oregon Tournament of Champions - an invitational for only those who won tournaments last year.
Her two day event was 73-72, for +1 and a 5 stroke win over her next competitor.

We are always so proud of her.

THE LADIES WHO DANCE

What a totally cool concept this week at CCCB - use cardboard and paint !!

This was a lot of fun for me, and I spent some time getting it just the way I wanted. The cool dancer is an image from my friend Rilly's Etsy Shop, The House Across The Bay. The sheet features 8 dancers, each beginning life as a black and white image on cigarette cards. Rilly told me she put on 7 layers of color !

Anyway, I hope this is just the first in a series of tags I am making for myself to frame. I have not done a series before, have you ?? Don't tell the M*O*J*O*, as I think it may be a way out of that funk.

The paint requirement was accomplished using a bunch of Ranger daubers overlapping one another atop the cardboard tag.

The potion is Love Potion #1. Of course.

Thursday Tutorial at Papercraft Star

Today at Papercraft Star I have done a tutorial on storing and retrieving your photos. When I was teaching college, I occasionally taught a class on records management - and I always stressed to my students it wasn't about storing your records, it was about being able to retrieve them later !

I keep a zillion pictures on my computer, and I bet you do too. If you are not real computer savvy, this should help you get going on an organized file system. I can always put my finger on a picture almost instantly, and I can credit any pictures I have downloaded by naming my folders. If you are a scrapbooker, you can use folders to organize the photos you haven't managed to scrap yet.

Here is what my picture gallery looks like when I open it.

My photos automatically come up in a date folder. You can move your photo to another folder (I put all my blog pictures together) by simply dragging and dropping into the folder.

When I open my blog photo folder, it looks like this, with all the pictures in folders according to date.

You can sort them other ways too, by clicking on "arrange by..."

To make a new folder, click on "new folder" - how hard is that.

Double click the name on the folder (it is called new folder, very creative), and you can rename it by typing in the blue space below.

Hope this will help you sort your photos just the way you want them. You should have no trouble finding anything again !!

Papercraft Star 48

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

This week at Papercraft Star we have this wonderful inspirational picture !

I took the white, the circle (balloon) and some greens to incorporate into my card.

The card is 4.5 x 5.5. I punched out one 2" circle from the cardstock.
I scored it twice on the right.
I stamped the sentiment.
I punched out one 2.5" circle from the green paper, and adhered it with pop dots on the inside of the card.
I added a green ribbon.
I stamped a heart on different paper, fussy cut it, and adhered, again using pop dots.
Ta da ! A 5 minute card.

Our sponsor this week is Tradefish Designs - owned by our past (well, last week !) DT member, Cecilia Stephens. She specializes in stamps for men, and boy, this sure is the month you need that one !! She is even offering a 10 % discount this month - use code PCSTAR10.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

City Crafter has challenged us to use a frame in our work this week.

This time of year I think back to my daughter's wedding, 5 years ago on Labor Day. She looked like a princess, and had the most lovely garden wedding I have ever been to. I will never forget her and her cousin, Joe, dancing together, whirling around and around. A really happy moment. I have never worn a beautiful dress - it must be amazing.

CCCB 57

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

This week, at City Crafter Challenge, our "mission" (as Spencer would say) is the combo of stripes and polka dots.

Now, strictly speaking, these may not be "polka" dots, but nonetheless, I included them. I bought this design paper a while ago, as it was very campy, strictly speaking - the woods and outdoors. It turned out to be more Boo-Boo than Yogi.

I will probably pass this lot of paper on to someone else - that would be a good thing.

Made this as an anniversary card, I probably won't use it myself, but those who receive cards in a box as a gift will.

Spencer decided to make some eggs while his mom was in the shower. He took them into his room, and when he couldn't "open" them, he bit into them. Ooops.

On Sunday we told him we were going to go to Home Depot, Albertsons and then home. After we left Albertsons Dom made some noises about going somewhere else and Spencer said

"Wait a minute guys, we TALKED about this."

Papercraft Star 46

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

It is always strange to me just how far we actually range from our initial inspiration ! Papercraft Star 46 opens today, and I see all the DT 's projects run all over the place.

I am working on making more feminine cards with my favorite card colors. I think I made this one neutral though ! Or close to it.

The Tim Holtz fragment has an ink technique I picked up from the Compendium - page 55. I need a little practice with this, but I thought it turned out well for my first attempt.

Link up between now and Sunday !! See you at Papercraft Star.

CR84FN27

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

CR84FN always has a color challenge, and this week we are looking at bright pink, gray and cream.

This is a very simple card, about 20 minutes in the making. That means the rest of you could have made it in 5 minutes ! BUT just because cards are made quickly doesn't mean they aren't effective, just as cards that take forever aren't necessarily good. I speak from experience.

I used Recollections papers and a pink gel pen, that is about all. And some pop up dots.

Water lilies are the state flower of Washington. When I lived there I forever had the urge to pick one, as soon as I moved away I never thought of picking one again ! I think they are one of God's most beautiful flowers.
