JUGS 104

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Just Us Girls has a sketch this week, as they always do the first week of the month.

This week my daughter Brie is in Savannah, Georgia playing with the Oregon US Golf Association team.  So, we missed having her with us for her birthday !  This is the card I made for her - and it is green since she is playing golf this week !

Everything is little scraps of things left around.  I will do my best to remember where they came from ...

The day before Brie's birthday Jason asked little Spencer

Do you know it is Mom's birthday tomorrow ?
It is ?  What date is it ?
    Well, it is October 4th.
Oh wow - that is the same day The Lion King comes out in Blue-Ray !!

A sure way for him to remember his mom's birthday forever....

A color challenge this week at Papercraft Star !

Designed by our very own Kim...

I don't do color challenges very often -it is one of my hardest kinds of challenges.  I must work on that...

Ah yes, you wondered how I could fit this into a Halloween card, huh....
Well, what do you think ?

So many of Rilly's designs at theHouseAcrosstheBay fit in with the background for a mask.  I bought these THoltz masks last year, long ago, and have never used them.  But once I started trying them out on Rilly's digitals I had a terrible time deciding which (witch) one I would use !!  I think they will make at least one more spooky appearance before Halloween...

I have some big blocks that say Hocus Pocus on them, decorating the living room.  Spencer just loves to say that, hocus pocus, hocus pocus.

A couple of weeks ago we came outside and Spencer said
Oh look - there are leaves on your car, Grandma!
Deardy dear
        I said
and spoke to those leaves in my most admonishing voice
I shall have to put you into time out
and threw them on the ground and stomped on them
and never fall on my car again

There is nothing better in this world than hearing those little toddler belly laughs.  So now of course, we are on the lookout for those naughty leaves, who apparently have NOT learned their lesson !

Stop in and see us at Papercraft Star this week - our design team is completely on fire with all their wonderful ideas !!

City Crafter 76

♥♥♥♥♥

City Crafter has us lifting something from this card ...

Cute, huh...

Well of course the simple thing is to use the bird cage.  Yeh, I didn't complicate this up too much, lol.  Though you could never tell from looking at this, I had a major mojo breakdown right in the middle of it, and could not finish it.  Struggle struggle stuggle, after I just told Tracy I hardly ever have that happen to me any more, lol.

Why was this soooooooooo hard ??   Here is a little trick I learned though - I used white thread on it, but daubed some distress ink over it, now it is the right color purple !  The Coredinations paper has a purple core.

Papercraft Star 64

♥♥♥♥

The theme this week at Papercraft Star is Lace !

When I chose this picture I had visions of something beautiful and vintage, a little aged and very loved.

Sooooooo, how is it that I ended up with something Halloween ??  Is it because my birthday passed a couple of weeks ago, and now I am realizing I really don't have enough time left alive to use up all that Halloween stuff ?????

Hmmmmmmm.....

You can barely see the little raggedy tulle flower in the lace.  Just a bunch of circles punched out, and they scared themselves into a weird little spider web flower.  Spencer cranked out the cardstock through the Cuttlebug for me.  The lace is true vintage, still on an old piece of cardboard, found at a thrift shop.  The gray grunge paper from theHouseAcrosstheBay etsy shop is perfect for Halloween !

Poisoned paper - theHouseAcrosstheBay (047, Gray grunge)
Cardstock - DCWV, Recollections
Design Paper - (beware) My Mind's Eye
Poison tape - Tim Holtz
Stamp - studio g  ($1.44!!)

Fall Colors

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

This is that wonderful time of year - not much rain, not much heat, just that bitty morning chill, and the promise of pumpkin pie, apple cider and maybe even some turkey and some shopping !!

The leaves are just barely changing, but football is in the air, and I do mean that literally.  Living less than a mile (crow flies) from the loudest football stadium in the country means no Saturday napping for me !!  But, I am looking forward to a farm visit to pick up our fall decor items, and some grillin' vegetables.

This fall card is heading off to some challenges at :

City Crafter's Challenge this week is MUSIC !

One reason I became inclined to join in the fun of paper crafting was because I had seen some cards with music on them.  I thought that musical paper was just so romantic and beautiful, soft, and vintage.  As if no one writes music any more, how goofy is that !

When I was younger I took some music theory classes, and have loved all sorts of music all my life.  Def Leppard to Yo Yo Ma, Motown, Warren Zevon, Chris Brown, love em all.

Spencer is quite a music lover himself.  He has been able to identify musical instruments he hears from at least 2 years old, clarinet, tuba, trombone.  Unfortunately, while he sings with great enthusiasm, it is not done particularly well.  Sort of like most of us !

Well, enuff said - here is my card ....

Cardstock - Bazzill
Design Paper - Creative Imaginations, K & Co, Bo Bunny, memoriesinthemaking

Card Patterns 131

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Here is the sketch for Card Patterns this week !

I "mirrored" mine so that my little mummy wouldn't look as if he was walking off the card !  The most fun thing about Halloween is that it is kinda silly, and yet we pretend it is kinda spooky too.  Even 3 year old Spencer knows it is all pretend scary !  I also did a Halloween card because, well, let's face it, I buy everything I see, and I will never, in this life-time, use up all my Halloween "stuff."

The mummy is embossed, and filled with white Gelly Roll Pen. (Isn't that such a darling stamp !!)   The flowers are cheapo put-together things, covered in distress ink.

Cardstock - American Crafts, Recollections
Design Paper - My Mind's Eye, DCWV
Scalloped brads - Recollections
Punch - Martha Stewart

Papercraft Star 61

 ♥♥♥♥♥♥

Today Papercraft Star 61 opens - with a color challenge !

For those of us who are Americans, we cannot get past this time of year without thinking of our flag.  It is the 10th anniversary of a most terrible day for us all, coming up on 9/11.

When I was a small girl growing up in Vancouver British Columbia, there were still many many disabled veterans alive from WW 1.  In November they would be in the streets selling paper poppies for a couple of cents, and everyone wore one, to remind us of our servicemen and women who died protecting us.

This time we had no war, our losses weren't sad, vague ones, we saw innocents dying, or about to die for absolutely nothing.

When I made this card I had had it in my mind for a very long time - the poppies will always mean remembrance to me.  In France during WW 1, a terrible loss of life in Flanders Fields, where poppies grew up around the graves.

Papercraft Star 60

♥♥♥♥♥♥

This week at Papercraft Star we are doing steampunk !!  If steampunk is new to you, think of time machines, turquoise blue, flying ships, brass, machines, Jules Verne, pipes and cogs, clocks and chains.  So many wonderful and imaginative things !!  This is my most favorite type of card, as you probably know by now.  I don't do them often, but I totally get immersed in the creating when I do.

Here is our inspiration photo this week - use if you choose, go full fledged steampunk or just use something metal on your project !!

The card I made was for Dom's birthday a couple of weeks ago.

I made an easel card.  The top hat is a fussy cut image I found, uh-oh, somewhere on the internet, I did some black embossing on it to give it a shinier look.  Also embossed, in gold, is the frame around the sentiment.  I used an old watch on the bottom for the "stop."

The tag has one of theHouseAcrosstheBay's steampunk ladies, and the tag itself is from one of Rilly's cardmaker series, Flourishes.  I added some jewelry fixin's to the top, and the frame I made from two spellbinders, and colored with distress ink.  The rub ons came from 7 Gypsies.  Yes, he LOVED the card.

Don't miss this challenge - you cannot do it "wrong" !!  Link up now, until Monday 6am Eastern US, and get in on the fun and the prizes at Papercraft Star !!

Papercraft Star 59

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Papercraft Star has a back-to-school challenge theme this week.  Here is the picture for some inspiration - as always, you can use it if you choose, but I went a different route.  (and shame on me, since I chose the picture !!)

Normally I would jump at the chance to use all these gorgeous colors, and who doesn't look at a box of many crayons and think of the possibilities !  (you Copic people, you know EXACTLY what I mean !!)  But this is what I did instead...

I made a little "notebook", even found a paper ruler to stick into it.  I have saved those stickers for about a year and a half, just for this card, and even bought the paper in May, in Reno, anticipating a back-to-school challenge.  The Tim Holtz die, and the paper punch, all bought just for this card.  All the little detail paper from theHouseAcrosstheBay fit just perfectly.  So, I am guessing the total cost was about $30 for the card, lol.   It was so much fun to make !!  (I will make up for that price, right ??  right ??)

This week we are introducing our new design team members !  Jennifer of Ferrellgraph-x, and Anitra, of Stamping While They Sleep.  We are really excited to be expanding our little Papercraft Star Team.  We think you are going to like what you see !!

I am also entering this into the following challenges:
Craft your Passion - Snarky remarks (Yup Yup, mine is !)
The Crazy Challenge - Back to school
Snap Creations - Back to school
Party Time Tuesdays - Back to school
Use it Tuesday - Back to school, hoarded supplies
Die Cuttin Divas - Special teacher, die cuts (get out of bed is for teachers too !!)

Tags and background - theHouseAcrosstheBay
Cardstock - Reflections
Design Paper - Bo Bunny, TPC
Ink - Ranger Distress
Stickers - MAMBI
Clips - Tim Holtz
Die Cuts - Tim Holtz
Punch - EK Success

Link up between now and Monday 6 am Eastern US at Papercraft Star - prizes AND fun !!  See you there.

Friends is the theme at City Crafters Challenge this week.  I am combining that theme with the sketch at Our Creative Corner !

I have been fortunate to have some pretty incredible girlfriends over the years - I hope you have too !!  I made this card with my blogging buddy, Tracy, in mind.  Look how skinny our waists are !!  lol

That beautiful image is the latest from my friend Rilly, over at theHouseAcrosstheBay - "These turn-of-the-century images are from are from a textile manufacturer's catalog showing how their materials can be used to create the latest high style fashions."
