OCCSC 4

Had a great time making this - the frame is acetate, so a little tough to work with, but turned out ok. I figured this for an anniversary, or sock drawer card.

Learned lots of new things again today.
  • How to make a light box for my photos.
  • There is free digital paper !
  • There are some amazingly talented people in this craft.
I guess I never said - but I am less than 3 months into paper crafting. Thought I would make handmade invitations for all my Christmas entertaining in December, and look how quickly I ended up here ! What a journey. Hope to keep on learning and growing...

Play Date Cafe 18

I need some camera help badly !

This challenge was about turquoise. Watching the women skate their long program last night was my inspiration, as the rink background was turquoise and green, and the skater Joannie Rochette from Canada wore the same blue. You probably recall her mother died earlier in the week.

Not only this skater, but the Olympic experience in Vancouver has meant a lot to me. I grew up in this incredible cosmopolitan city, and although the downtown may have changed with the times, the silhouette of the mountains remains the same, as does Stanley Park, the Lions Gate Bridge, the inlets. If you have never been there, it is an amazing city.

So, blue, scarves and flakes are my tribute to the Olympics, Joannie Rochette, and Vancouver British Columbia. (I promise this was my one and only sentimental post.)

JUGS 21 Color Challenge

Raspberry, vanilla, chocolate (a banana split !) and the inedible coral make up this color challenge at Just Us Girls. The picture doesn't show how well those two pink colors go together - but they do, surprise surprise.
Judge Judy is wondering where I am, and my kitchen has forgotten I exist.

What is not to like about a WISH card. It works for everything, I wish you weren't a bully, I wish you didn't have a broken arm, I wish I hadn't opened my big fat mouth. Of course, for those of us of a certain age, WISH means Walt Disney, and that means sparkles, huh !
This was a good challenge sketch - but it took me awhile to figure it out.
Picking up a new memory card for my camera tonight, hopefully better photos for the future...

OCCSC 3

Saw this cool challenge late today, and since I needed a baby card ...

One of the servers at my breakfast hangout, Julia, is having a little girl next month. Little Isabella will get this card and a wee gift to welcome her into the world! The little animals are cut from Debbie Mumm paper.

I didn't use the word "little" enough in this post, did I.

Cinema Saturday #67

Tristan & Isolde was the film this week, a sad haunting story of love long ago.

The simplicity of this card belies all the trouble it was ! As this was my first cinema challenge I did find it tough, but it was fun to look at my work differently.

Someone may find this in his sock drawer soon . . . All this romance has gone to my head obviously.

Sweet Sunday Sketch 57

ARGH Mateys, this is one lousy photo, but I took about 20, and it was the best one.
Three things I learned today:
1) Two cards, pink/green, two days in a row, does not a happy blog make
2) Soft colors require soft scissors
3) dafont.com - lots of free fonts (goodbye remainder of this day, as I explore)

I will get a photo of myself up here someday. (Notice how I have already blamed the camera....)

CPS 155

When the neighbor took down her Halloween ghosts this weekend I knew it must be nearly spring. We had often wondered, as the Christmas season came and went, if they were supposed to be the ghosts of Christmas past, present or future. As her Christmas decorations didn't come down with them, we can only assume they were truly representative of Halloween only. We know summer is over when the Christmas ones come down.

On another note, I seem to be the last one without a Cricut or Cuttlebug. I would love to know how people like theirs - please let me know so I can justify the expense to myself !

Crop Suey 2

The only requirement for this challenge was that it was for a man.

I have been making a lot of my sentiments myself, using Word 2007. I hope to play with them a little more, buy a better font program and get something really unique happening. They are usually printed on vellum, but sometimes I use other types of paper too. It is awfully easy, and I can say exactly what I want, instead of searching for the perfect quotation or stamp.

Curtain Call Act 17

What an unusual color combo for this challenge. I couldn't resist !
The daffodils are out, and the tulips are getting close. Spring is almost here, and I will sorely miss the rain, fog, fireplace, fleece sheets once summer comes. A typical Oregonian I think...

Get Well Joyce !

Had breakfast today with my old friend, Bill. He is one of the first people I met after moving here to Eugene 31 years ago, and did me the favor of hiring me ! His wife, Joyce, is recovering from surgery, and I made this card for her. I shamelessly copied the idea of the border edging from a magazine - and I will do it again.
  • Edging done in felt tip
  • Papers - both from dcwv
  • Edger, daisy, eyelets with skinny silver thread (you can barely see it !)
  • Embossed sentiment

Everything But the Kitchen Sink #9

The paper is from DCWV (la creme matstack) and Martha Stewart. The "cherish" embellishment is from makingmemories. On the sides are flairs from some old scrapping books from more than 10 years ago that my sis-in-law gave me when I took up this sport. They are on disappearing tape, and about the easiest thing I have ever used.

I love that cream/white/black combo - it always looks elegant, and you can use it for so many occasions.

My first attempt at a sketch challenge. The paper is from atd- Great Outdoors. Being from the Pacific NW I loved this look. Happy 93rd birthday, Dad !

First ever blog entry

Welcome !
