TKJ 118 - Recycle/Reuse

♥♥♥♥♥

The Kraft Journal's theme this week is ...

Recycle/Reuse !!

I have a large bag filled with packaging, hoping for a recycle/reuse challenge, just like today ! I began with my usual Kraft Blank Note Card.  I added some design paper, and a large sentiment tag. I used some packaging from an embossing folder, and embossed it. I fussy cut the edges, and adhered it to the front of the card with eyelets.  Through the eyelets I threaded some blue Brights Hemp Cord, and a White x-small tag stamped with hugs and kisses !  I would like to remind you of the supplies available at Kraft Outlet - two of which I used on this card, the Ink Blending tool, and the Bone Folding tool.

Papercraft Star 141 - Watch/clock

♥♥♥♥♥

I chose the theme this week at Papercraft Star,
clocks or watches
so I could make a masculine type card, or
maybe steampunk.

Instead, I ended up with a very feminine look, and not one bit like I had thought.  I never ever know how I start in one place, and end up somewhere else completely !

My card ...

The most inside

In retrospect, I should have done something with that little clock, like mount it on something, but it was too late, as it was already glued down.

TKJ 117 - Clean & Simple

♥♥♥♥♥

The Kraft Journal, this week, is all about
Clean and Simple !

Jan Del Bone
I think these challenges are the hardest of all to conceptualize.  It is always so tempting to want to add more and more !  This week I began with a Kraft Blank Note Card, and adhered some design paper to it.  The bird image was bordered by some Kraft card stock, and wrapped with Earthy hemp cord, pulled through a button and into a bow.  The sentiment is from the Pretoria Fortunes Rubbing.

I chose to make a tag this week just 'cuz.

TKJ 116 - Tag, You're It !

♥♥♥♥♥

I think I may be actually squealing ...
This week at The Kraft Journal our theme is
Tag You're It !

I love making tags, so this week's challenge, Tag You're It ! fits right into my favorite pastime.  I really challenged myself with my first two mixed media tags, the sentiments really do reflect my thoughts !!  From the Kraft Outlet, I used a background of Vintage Reproduction Sears Catalog Pages, adhered to a Large Manila Shipping Tag.  I added two General Store Postage Stamp Stickers to further the "store" theme, added a charm and a bead, and threaded the eyelets with Natural Hemp Cord.  The tag has been heavily stamped, inked, painted, and whatever !

The second tag also has a base of a Large Manila Shipping Tag and Vintage Dictionary Pages were torn and adhered to it.  Also adhered was a Journal Ticket and a Custom Fastener.  Some beads and a heart clip were attached, and some Earthy Hemp Cord laced through the pink eyelets.  This tag was also heavily inked, stamped, and otherwise "treated" to the mixed media methods.

These were so much fun to make, but really time consuming.  Also, I found that I wanted to add more and more, which seems to me to be right in tune with mixed media efforts.  Expect a lot more of these from me.

TKJ - Wednesday Tutorial

♥♥♥♥♥

Today is my monthly post at The Kraft Journal's Wednesday Tutorial and Tips.

I have never quite known how to store stamps, especially when out of sight (for me!) means out of mind.  I am always finding some stamp somewhere that I didn't even know I had, does that happen to you ?

When I first began stamping on my cards, I had no idea my collection would expand so much !  Recently I saw an article in a craft magazine asking the question, how do you store your stamps ?, and even the experts didn't have any ideas I didn't already think of.

At first, all my stamps were in a shoebox, sitting on my craft table.  This was a pretty good solution for me for a time, as I could find them quickly, and they were so easy at hand.  I had read somewhere to keep your unmounted stamps in a CD jewel box, which I tried, but the center stem was always in the way. Finally, I had to separate out my mounted stamps though, and I put them on a closet door ...

I found a 13 x13 box, two inches high, so I could put my Christmas mounted stamps in a closet with all of my other holiday paper and stamps.

My first solution for my unmounted stamps was a hard cover box, with binder clips, and plastic sleeves.  This was too large to keep on my craft table, I found I forgot all about it, and those sleeves just weren't right.  Sometimes the stamps would cling to them, which didn't seem like a great plan either.

In the end I found I had to keep my stamps in different areas.  A friend gave me a 31 day wooden box, meant for receipts, and I found I could keep that easily on the table.  I can thumb through them very quickly, so the stamps most often used ended up here.

I have a lot more unmounted stamps I wanted to have close at hand too, and I found these plastic holders at Stampendous ...

You can store these upright, or flat, they are very thin and fit into a magazine holder easily.  I always tape some of the packaging to the back, so I know where the stamps originated.

Here you can see how easily you can find a piece.  This is really one of my smartest storage solutions.

But in the end, I found the best storage of all for those stamps I use everyday, the stamps with all the sentiments.  This is a drawer right next to my knee, and I'll be honest, my favorite solution...

Yup, a pile stuffed in a drawer !

How do you handle your stamps ??

Papercraft Star 139 - Garden/seeds

Spencer has taken to a new game, called "Chopped", and yes, it is exactly like the Food Network show.

He plays Ted, and does all the "host" work, while everyone else plays both the chefs, and the panel.  Oh yes, he plays one of the chefs and one of the panel too.
Talk about crummy baskets - for our appetizer course last night we had loganberries, fried chicken, refried soda and coconut cake.  The chefs present their dishes to the panel, and the panel tastes and comments, with Spencer saying things like
"I love the manner in which you cooked this"
and
"this is completely trash, trash trash"
and then we must all go to the waiting room where we commiserate with one another saying things like
"oh, I hope I don't get chopped"

Of course, you have to have watched the program in order to know the typical things that are said, and Spencer knows them all.
Pop won last night, since he said he would use his $10,000 and give it all to his grandson, and of course Spencer lifted the lid, and told me I was chopped, and Pop said aha I lied, I will keep it all for myself!

It took us a whole half hour to play, almost as long as the real show !
I love 5 years old, so so fun.
