Papercraft Star 60

♥♥♥♥♥♥

This week at Papercraft Star we are doing steampunk !!  If steampunk is new to you, think of time machines, turquoise blue, flying ships, brass, machines, Jules Verne, pipes and cogs, clocks and chains.  So many wonderful and imaginative things !!  This is my most favorite type of card, as you probably know by now.  I don't do them often, but I totally get immersed in the creating when I do.

Here is our inspiration photo this week - use if you choose, go full fledged steampunk or just use something metal on your project !!

The card I made was for Dom's birthday a couple of weeks ago.

I made an easel card.  The top hat is a fussy cut image I found, uh-oh, somewhere on the internet, I did some black embossing on it to give it a shinier look.  Also embossed, in gold, is the frame around the sentiment.  I used an old watch on the bottom for the "stop."

The tag has one of theHouseAcrosstheBay's steampunk ladies, and the tag itself is from one of Rilly's cardmaker series, Flourishes.  I added some jewelry fixin's to the top, and the frame I made from two spellbinders, and colored with distress ink.  The rub ons came from 7 Gypsies.  Yes, he LOVED the card.

Don't miss this challenge - you cannot do it "wrong" !!  Link up now, until Monday 6am Eastern US, and get in on the fun and the prizes at Papercraft Star !!

Papercraft Star 59

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Papercraft Star has a back-to-school challenge theme this week.  Here is the picture for some inspiration - as always, you can use it if you choose, but I went a different route.  (and shame on me, since I chose the picture !!)

Normally I would jump at the chance to use all these gorgeous colors, and who doesn't look at a box of many crayons and think of the possibilities !  (you Copic people, you know EXACTLY what I mean !!)  But this is what I did instead...

I made a little "notebook", even found a paper ruler to stick into it.  I have saved those stickers for about a year and a half, just for this card, and even bought the paper in May, in Reno, anticipating a back-to-school challenge.  The Tim Holtz die, and the paper punch, all bought just for this card.  All the little detail paper from theHouseAcrosstheBay fit just perfectly.  So, I am guessing the total cost was about $30 for the card, lol.   It was so much fun to make !!  (I will make up for that price, right ??  right ??)

This week we are introducing our new design team members !  Jennifer of Ferrellgraph-x, and Anitra, of Stamping While They Sleep.  We are really excited to be expanding our little Papercraft Star Team.  We think you are going to like what you see !!

I am also entering this into the following challenges:
Craft your Passion - Snarky remarks (Yup Yup, mine is !)
The Crazy Challenge - Back to school
Snap Creations - Back to school
Party Time Tuesdays - Back to school
Use it Tuesday - Back to school, hoarded supplies
Die Cuttin Divas - Special teacher, die cuts (get out of bed is for teachers too !!)

Design Paper - Bo Bunny, TPC
Ink - Ranger Distress

Link up between now and Monday 6 am Eastern US at Papercraft Star - prizes AND fun !!  See you there.

I have been fortunate to have some pretty incredible girlfriends over the years - I hope you have too !!  I made this card with my blogging buddy, Tracy, in mind.  Look how skinny our waists are !!  lol

That beautiful image is the latest from my friend Rilly, over at theHouseAcrosstheBay - "These turn-of-the-century images are from are from a textile manufacturer's catalog showing how their materials can be used to create the latest high style fashions."

Fun with Fruit - OCC

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Fun with Fruit is the theme at Our Creative CornerI just had to laugh, as I don't often have that much fun with fruit.  But, Spencer made me some banana tea last week while we were playing "restaurant", and I thought that was pretty fun.  He also put grapes in his Grandpop's vegetable soup, and when Pop protested he insisted the disgruntled customer talk to the OTHER restaurant owner, ME.  That was pretty fun too - lots of shrieking and "SIRs" and much finger shaking.

So here is my Fun with Fruit !!!

Card Patterns 128

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Here is the Card Patterns sketch this week ...

and here is my take ....

I made this yesterday while Spencer was visiting.  He was doing jigsaw puzzles on the internet, and playing Bob the Builder.  Dom asked me how I managed to finish a card while he was on premises - and I actually have no idea.  I must have pounded it out pretty darned quick !!

4 Crafty Chicks 50

♥♥♥♥♥♥

It is one of those weird summer days, no sun, 68 degrees, maybe some socks on the cold feet ...  We still haven't had but one day over 90 degrees, and it is looking as if we are going to have one of those completely perfect summers.  So, of course, my first thought is NAP !  but I decided I would fight through it, and make a card along with the 4 Crafty Chicks, who are using twine this week !!

This is a card that requires no explanation at all, lol !  Hope you liked it - it was great fun to make !!

365 Cards - Day 164

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Just haven't been finding much time to actually play any challenges out and about, but 365 Cards has a fun challenge, team colors.

The colors I used, red and black, are from my old high school, Sammamish High in Bellevue Washington.  I know, I had to really stretch to remember what colors they were, it has been JUST A FEW years since I actually even saw the school.  Here is my card !

The reds are much closer in color in real life -the camera really picked up the difference.

Papercraft Star 57

This week at Papercraft Star we have the following challenge...

Use a book as your inspiration !  A title, a theme, or even a book cover.

I never make anything for myself.  But this week, I am keeping this book to remind me of where I have been, and where I am going.  I based it on the book "Around the World in 80 Days", including air balloons and stamps, integral parts of the story.  All the balloon images come from Rilly at theHouseAcrosstheBay.

In my 30's I was a mom.  In my 40's I found a whole new world in competitive golf.  In my 50's I became an adjunct at a local college.  And now, in my 60's I find myself at the helm of Papercraft Star !  All these things surprised me.

And now on to the book.

I don't have a complete list of everything I used as much of it was scraps, and little things lying about.  But here goes for what I can remember ....

All balloon images, world map, pocket "watch" - theHouseAcrosstheBay etsy shop
Design paper - My Mind's Eye, Bo Bunny, Graphic 45, gcd studios
Brads - Bo Bunny, stash
Stamps - Tim Holtz, Inkadinkado, 7 Gypsies
Stickers - Tim Holtz, stash
Rub ons - Michaels $1 bin, stash, 7 Gypsies
Clips, charms, beads, key, ribbon - Tim Holtz, K & Co, stash
Fiber and ribbons - stash
Ink - Ranger, Versafine
Frames - K & Co

If there is something in particular you are dying to know about, please ask and I will try to track it down !

♥♥♥♥♥♥

City Crafter Challenge is all about doodling this week.  This is something I really like to do, mark it up a little, and add something all my own.

I love the fall, and I am now starting to think about it earnestly.  I keep all my Halloween and Fall paper, stamps, etc. in a separate place - and I found myself opening it all up and enjoying everything I bought when it was all on sale !  I could not resist a Halloween card, no matter that it is August.

and here is the tag, with its doodles and hand drawn Nevermore ....

The little brad at the top has a skull on it !

I had so much fun making this.  The crow/raven/blackbird (I dunno the difference) is embossed to enhance the stamp.  Spencer is all into monsters right now, and a little bit of scary, just enough to be fun.

Card Patterns always seems to have a sketch you can keep forever !

Yikes, I think I strayed !!

Nevertheless, it was a fun and quick card, very easy.

The picture itself isn't so hot.  But, every so often a card becomes camera shy.  Ever notice that ?
